AZNMT is dedicated to the practice and teaching of NeuroMuscular Therapy (NMT) and Therapeutic Massage.
NMT is a methodology for assessing, treating and preventing soft tissue injuries and chronic pain. It is a series of treatment protocols based on the practitioner's skill, knowledge of the body's anatomy and precise palpatory techniques to relieve the ischemia, which primarily causes our sensations of pain, tenderness and soreness.
We believe these are the most effective techniques to address acute and chronic pain from trauma, overuse, misuse, repetitive movements/postures and the general stress of our busy daily lives.
We are conveniently located in Scottsdale near the Scottsdale Healthcare Shea campus.

What should you expect during a massage?
- The massage therapist will ask you questions about what prompted you to get a massage.
- The massage therapist will want background information about your physical condition, medical history, lifestyle, stress levels and any painful areas.
- The massage therapist will ask you what your health goals are and will discuss how massage may help you achieve those goals.
- During a one-on-one massage you will be asked to remove clothing appropriate for the area being worked and to your level of comfort. Clothing is not removed for chair massage.
- Communication with your therapist is key during the massage. Questions and dialog should take place regarding the level of pressure and the amount of discomfort, if any, and relief is being experienced.
- Your therapist may recommend “homework” or self care tips you can follow at home to assist in the healing process and prevent recurrences.
Trained massage therapists are happy to share their credentials with clients. Always check to make sure your therapist is licensed and appropriately trained to perform the techniques planned during a therapy session.

Most people know that massage therapy can help relieve stress and pain, reduce blood pressure and boost the immune system. And more people than ever are trying massage for the first time. Whatever your reasons for getting massage there are some things you should know to get the most from your massage.
There are many types of massage and the AMTA designates the various methods as massage modalities. You should consult with your massage therapist as the best modality to give you the results that you want.
The most popular types include Swedish which is the most common and is designed to relax and energize you. Deep tissue is for muscle damage from an injury such as whiplash or back strain. Sports massage helps prevents athletic injury by keeping the body flexible and assisting with healing should any injury occur. Chair massage is done while clothed and seated in a special portable chair.
While these are just the basic types, there are many more modalities available and many of them require certification in order to perform them. Ask your massage therapist if they have any specific training and specialty certifications.

As more consumers turn to massage therapy for medical conditions and to relieve stress, here are some tips to help the public find a qualified therapist.
Consumers should ask the following questions before getting a massage:
- Are you licensed to practice massage?
- Are you a member of a professional organization?
- Where did you receive your training and how many hours of continuing education do you have?
- Are you Nationally Certified in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork?
Trained massage therapists are happy to share their credentials with you. People look to massage therapy for more than pampering and relaxation. In the last ten years more consumers indicate they seek massage therapy for health and medical conditions and even other healthcare providers refer their patients to massage therapists.
Recent research shows that massage therapy provides relief from chronic low back pain, eases pain and muscle spams following surgery, and is effective in treating lymphedema, a condition common among mastectomy patients.

According to a survey conducted by the AMTA, more people get massage therapy for medical purposes than for relaxation. Thirty percent sought massage therapy for medical reasons, compared to 22 percent who sought it for relaxation and 13 percent who received massage as a simple indulgence. Almost one third (32 percent) of all Americans say they’ve used massage therapy at least once for pain relief - just behind those who turned to chiropractic (38 percent) and physical therapy (44 percent).
Survey respondents said they most frequently ought massage therapy for medical reasons, including pain management, injury recovery, soreness, general wellness and control of headaches or migraines. These benefits of massage are also being revealed by a growing body of medical literature.
